STYLE GURU STYLE: Is Shopping A Sport?

Sports luxe can now be considered synonymous with the Milly spring 2015 ready-to-wear show. Mesh fabrics in eye-catching hues and monochromatic sports bra and maxi skirt sets graced the runway, accessorized with sneakers and headscarves. The pops of royal blue and seemingly watercolored prints emulated masterpieces you might find at the Museum of Modern Art. The sporty trend is not new to the runway, but geometric shapes and structured pieces set the Milly show apart from the many ’70s-inspired designer collections we saw this season. As a whole, the show was cohesive, but each individual look felt like a breath of fresh air.

I can definitely admire the playful splashes of color seen throughout the show, but my personal style always has me drawn to black and white color schemes. For my take on the show, I was heavily inspired by the structured sports bra tops that were often layered under mesh jackets. I paired my favorite recent purchase—a minimal black crop top—with an old favorite—a sheer collared jacket. I kept the top half of my look edgy but juxtaposed the edge with a pleated maxi skirt. Wearing white on the bottom kept my outfit light, but still chic. Staying true to the sporty vibes of the collection, I accessorized with a pair of perforated slip-on sneakers.

The Milly show flawlessly combined wearable artwork and urban sports style. The collection has furthered my belief that fashion is a true art form and that the clothes you wear should reflect that.

Get My Look: 1. The perfect structured crop top. 2. The effortlessly cool slip-on sneaker. 3. A dainty necklace.
