STYLE GURU STYLE: Batter Up

I’ve recently come to the conclusion that baseball T-shirts are the perfect summer shirt. The material is light enough to feel breezy in the wind, and there really is a style or color for everyone. Plus, the shirt gives off major ’70s vibes, which has been all over the runway lately. The fall 2015 ready-to-wear show for Gucci was refreshingly eye catching, with patterns reminiscent of the ’70s. The color scheme was consistently vibrant, with many different fabrics and textures gracing the runway. I immediately knew I had to create an outfit inspired by the Gucci show, using pieces I already owned.

Although there wasn’t a baseball T-shirt featured specifically in this collection, I still feel that the shirt gives off a ’70s vibe, making it ideal for my own Gucci look. My soft, lightweight and surprisingly versatile baseball T-shirt is from American Apparel, and I can’t get enough of it. Lately, in the insane Texas heat, I’ve been styling it with denim shorts or denim skirts, with comfortable yet stylish sandals to complete the look. However, I felt that my dark wash jeans were more appropriate for the overall ’70s look.

I’m very short, and I’ve noticed that flared or wide-leg jeans overwhelm my petite figure. So, I opted instead for skinny jeans in a dark indigo wash. The dark wash helps to elongate my body, giving the illusion of model-like legs (if only). I also think the dark wash helps to balance out the light gray and white on the T-shirt. My sandals were another ’70s touch, since they have a bit of a platform. The leather and wood combination featured on the shoe gives off a boho feel, thus completing my Gucci-inspired look.

For jewelry, I kept it simple with a few simple silver rings. My turquoise ring and my crescent ring both tie in well with the boho theme. Plus, I’ve been seeing turquoise jewelry popping up in lots of stores, like Topshop and Zara.

Get My Look: 1. American Apparel baseball T-shirt. 2. Dark-wash skinny jeans. 3. Leather and wood sandals.
