STYLE GURU STYLE: Back To Back

Backpacks are having a major moment, and for good reason. When I saw the Rebecca Minkoff spring 2015 ready-to-wear show, I was instantly inspired to recreate one of the runway looks that featured a black leather backpack. For too long, the only backpack I carried was big, bulky and nylon. I used it to carry my books around campus, but now I find myself checking out the designer backpacks every time I go shopping.

As opposed to a tote or a crossbody, backpacks add an effortlessly cool vibe to any outfit. However, that doesn’t mean that they have to be totally casual. A sleek leather backpack can easily be paired with joggers and a T-shirt or with a dress for a more amped up look. In addition, backpacks are super comfortable and super convenient. If you are always carrying around a million things, or find that your tote is always full and disorganized, consider investing in a backpack. Not only do they have extra pockets to keep you organized, but they have great transitional value. A backpack can be used to carry your books to class, run errands and grab lunch with friends.

I wanted to keep my look super simple and laid back, so I chose comfortable black pants and a cropped tank top. To keep my leather backpack the focus of the outfit, I selected understated layering necklaces that give the look a little detail without taking away from the backpack. Embrace the backpack trend and rock one with fringe detailing or keep it classic with leather. No matter what your style, there’s a backpack for everyone.

Get My Look: 1. A leather backpack. 2. Layering necklaces. 3. Black pants.
