STYLE GURU BIO: Karen Diaz

Hey, everyone! My name is Karen and I am currently a senior at City College of New York in Harlem, New York. I was born and raised in Washington Heights. My style icons include Audrey Hepburn, Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez, Shakira, and Adele.

I can’t wait until the warmer days arrive because this cold weather is no joke. I love not having to layer up and not carry my coat around. I am majoring in creative writing and minoring in journalism, but after I graduate I plan on obtaining my masters in photojournalism. Photography and writing are my biggest passions. I currently have an Instagram account dedicated to my work in photography that I began about a year ago, and I enjoy it very much. I get to capture what I see through my lens and tell a story. Being a part of this internship as well makes me very ecstatic because I will learn more about fashion and I am very excited!

I would be honest and say that back in high school I wasn’t able to express my fashion/style simply because there was a uniform policy that I had to follow but I started wearing different color headbands throughout my high school years, so you can say I tried to be unique. I started to really discover fashion in college. I saw that everyone had this liberty to express who they were through clothes. When it comes to my style I like wearing solid color tops with long pants and a good pair of comfortable but fashionable shoes. I would describe my fashion style between classic and chic.

One quote that the wise Audrey Hepburn said and I’ve held onto is this “Opportunities don’t often come along. So, when they do, you have to grab them.” I think she’s absolutely right. This applies to everything in life if you get the opportunity to try a new pattern, new lipstick color, new job, or new internship then you should do it, simply because it doesn’t hurt to try. Next time, wear something you always wanted to try and work it! I hope you Fashionista/os enjoy reading my articles as much I enjoy writing them. Hope you have a stylish semester, see you around campus!
