ALL IN THE DETAILS: Textures at Play

As the end of summer season quickly approaches, it is important for our outfits to smoothly transition with the changing weather. We find ourselves uninspired by the drawer full of over-worn shirts and closet crammed with summer dresses. Looking for the perfect outfit for the awkward period of time between summer style and fall style can be daunting, yet rewarding. With several weeks left of summer, we face the challenge of restyling to adapt to the transitioning weather.

It is important to keep in mind that one of the easiest ways to create looks that ease us into full-fall-style-mode is to combine summer garments with fall pieces. Because summer and fall clothes encompass such different textures, mixing them together creates visually appealing and textual looks. Playing with textures is a great way to fashion the perfect outfit for the end of summer/beginning of fall. This Fashionista effectively did this by pairing a simple, softly cut summer tank top with black striped pants. The light tone of the tank top gives off a softer texture, whereas the striped pants is visibly harsher. By playing with the textural elements of pieces from each season, this Fashionista created a chic look.

However, the Fashionista didn’t stop there. She continued to play with summer and fall textures by thoughtfully accessorizing. She sports a beaded jade necklace, a mint hand-braided necklace, a silver chain, and a mix of silver rings (silver band, opal ring, ceramic floral ring, midi rings, and geometric ring). These necklaces are great accessories because the colors and shapes make the outfit more dynamic. The silver rings add a pop to the look, taking it to the next level. This Fashionista ties this look off by wearing a pair of platform shoes. These platform shoes not only create a balance in the outfit but also builds a sense of sophistication. Together, the necklaces, rings, and shoes give the look some outstanding elements of texture making the perfect outfit for the end of summer.
