STYLE GURU BIO: Deborah Bawe

Hey there beautiful person (yes, you that just stumbled upon my page) welcome to my world! My name is Deborah Bawe but you can call me Dee. I am a junior at SUNY Geneseo pursuing a double major in business administration and communication with a minor in marketing. This is my first semester as Style Guru for CollegeFashionista and let’s just say that I am pumped, excited, delighted, amazed, ecstatic, did I forget an adjective? I am super excited to be part of this amazing team and it is truly a dream come true to be able to write and report on fashion trends.

Since a younger age I believe I have always had a passion for the glamorous fashion world. I used to play in my mother’s closet, trying on her heels and dresses. But I truly developed my love for fashion when I was in the fourth grade. When I started realizing that I was becoming a teenager and that I cared about my appearance. I am the type of person who will feel uncomfortable if they are not well dressed. My confidence mostly comes from my clothes, if I do not like the outfit I am wearing I will not feel good and confident in what I am doing.

Other than having an obsession for Forever 21 and Fashion Nova I like to do other activities during my free time. For instance I like sleeping, if I could find a job that pays me to sleep all day I would be the happiest girl alive. While people spend time chasing for their soulmate I spend my time chasing for new food to enjoy (okay, but let’s be real I do not close my eyes when I see a fine man passing by).

I believe that I have a pretty unique fashion accessory which is my accent. Now, a lot of people have accents but mine is different because it is neither French nor African, but a combination of both. I was born in Texas back in 1996 (shout out to the ’90s babies). If you are good at math you know that I am 20. However I was raised in the Congo and Belgium, I came back to the States three years ago and I have been living in New York State ever since.

For me style is something that is defined by who you are and what you feel. I do not follow trends because I like to experiment. When I was younger I used to be bullied by older girls because I wore sneakers with a skirt. I think we can pretty much assume that those people most likely do the same now. I like to think that I started that trend, even if I did not can we let a girl dream for two seconds?

Now I want to know all about you guys! Stay tuned for more posts!
