STYLE GURU BIO: Marlise Lombardo

Hello to my fellow Fashionistas/os! My name is Marlise Lombardo and this semester I will do my absolute best to be your go-to for all things fashion. I am a junior at the University of Delaware majoring in Management and Marketing with a minor in Fashion History and Culture. When I first began college, I didn’t know exactly what I wanted to do with my life, but knew a business degree would always be relevant. After much deliberation, a Say Yes to the Dress marathon, I realized my life and future career had to involve the fashion industry. I mean why hadn’t I thought of this before? My closet is brimming with clothing, color-coordinated and organized by pieces. And the answer to your question is no… I’m not obsessed with clothes.

One of the most magical things in this world for me is New York City: in the snow in December, in the light spring breeze come April and especially in the orange-red leaves scattered around Central Park once October hits. Rose-colored glasses are always being worn whilst in and discussing Manhattan: and I wouldn’t have it any other way. This summer, I took my dream internship in N.Y.C. at JLM Couture, a multi-label bridal house. I learned more about the bridal/fashion industry than I ever could have imagined and cemented my love for bridal.

I love everything about fall: sweaters, booties, denim, scarves and vests. If you’re wondering why I am only listing pieces of clothing for reasons why I love fall then you should revert back to the first paragraph where I mention that I am not obsessed with clothes. To fuel my fall clothing addiction I currently work as a Sales Associate at J.Crew. I love J.Crew’s elevated yet casual style and I try to embody that in my everyday look as often as possible.

For me, fashion needs to be a no-brainer, something you can throw on in a pinch and know you look amazing. Dresses are go-to for me, especially ones such as this Leith trapeze dress that can go from late summer to fall so seamlessly. Pairing a simple dress with a great necklace and some wedges gives the outfit a more sophisticated feel without having to really do any work at all. The gold chain necklace is from J.Crew, where I find most of my statement jewelry. The wedges are by Stuart Weitzman and while my exact pair are from a couple seasons ago, their sister pair can be found on the website! My first secret to being a Fashionista is ALWAYS utilizing a sale and buying for your future needs. All the pieces I’m wearing were purchased for more than fifty percent off sticker price. Us Fashionistas need to look fabulous on a budget!

I am so excited to be a Style Guru this fall and cannot wait to see what this semester has in store for me! And okay, maybe I’m obsessed with clothes…just a little.
