3 Reasons Every Traveler Should Explore Small Towns

While traveling down a highway for what feels like years, everything passing outside your window begins to bore you. Why suffer boredom when you can explore a new place and get some fresh air? Small towns are all unique in their own way and guaranteed to entertain you—at least for an hour or two. So, pull over for a little while, get some lunch, and explore. Here are three reasons why every traveler should explore small towns.

1—Boutiques. Small towns are full of little boutiques and shops that all are unique to their area. Boutiques with antique furniture or crafty items for sale are always the best. One-of-a-kind items such as a comfy sweater or a fun sun dress, can be found at a local clothing boutique. Depending on the major city nearby, some local boutiques tend to be a little on the pricey side, so watch those price tags and hunt for the best deal. However, if you’re looking for that cute notebook or a new scarf, these local boutiques have you covered. The best part is that no one back home will have these unique items.

2—Local Restaurants. If you travel the country, you know that the pizza is different everywhere. New York pizza is known to be the best, but I traveled a little farther west to taste the difference. While the local restaurant I ate at didn’t have the best Italian food in the world, it did have nice charm and pretty enjoyable pizza. Small town restaurants also offer history, different cultural foods, and a new atmosphere. Eating at an unpredictable location gives you a slight taste of adventure and won’t break the bank.

3—Architecture and History. There are always boring small towns only full of strip malls, so make sure to stop at ones that are rich in history and full of beautiful architecture. In the small town I visited, I found abandoned buildings from the 1800s still being preserved. I also learned that most of the buildings have been re-purposed from old barns into stores and restaurants. So look around and learn something new about our country’s rich history.

Traveling is always new and exciting. Grab some friends and venture off the highway for a change. Don’t forget to post a fun photo and tag that interesting new location!
