STYLE GURU STYLE: The Dressy Black & White

As the transition to the start of fall is approaching, it’s time to do some layering for your outfit! I cannot explain enough the significance that layers play in pulling out your entire look. When we talk about the fall, we tend to think of neutral to bold colors, as well as warm and cozy fabrics. Today I decide to feature a runway fashion trend that would bring some excitement and liveliness into the outfit. I was inspired by the Chanel Cruise collection show designed by Karl Lagerfeld in Seoul. He totally rocked the show when he decided to blend the youthful and colorful vibes of Korean-Pop fashion into the knitted and cozy fabrics. The show reflects the runway trend of cultural exchange and brings a new taste into fashion.

Now let’s get into how I transform this runway trend into my own style. As I grew up in Vietnam, I wasn’t able to capture the moment when four seasons changed since we are a tropical country and only have two seasons. To celebrate the transition into fall, I decided to stick with the neutral colors which are the classic black and white. Here’s the secret, you can always be flexible with your fabric materials and designs, they play a key in making the outstanding highlight for your outfit without ruining the colors that you want to keep! Yes, fashion is all about mixing and matching around, as long as you are comfortable in your outfit.

I start off with this beautiful black ruffle dress. The ruffle layers make the dress look more gentle and light-some. You want to play around with your outfit so don’t stick with that boring black dress that is uncouth-shaped and rough looking in your wardrobe!

Since it’s getting chilly, I threw on this elegant Houndstooth crop coat. I prefer a cropped coat to pull out that fresh and younger look instead of the long one. Again, you don’t have to stick with the fall fashion norms, your style can be more playful. Here you can see the way I make the look pop by combining the ruffle material and printed Houndstooth design together, it’s a fun looking outfit!

Last but not least, a pair of combat boots will bring the whole look together. I go for a black pair to match with my ensemble, but don’t be afraid to try a brighter color since it can make your outfit change drastically. Don’t forget, we are trying to make fall outfits into more lively! It might be cold so you can take advantage of that to show off your knee-high socks, bright ones are also acceptable. Combat boots and knee-high socks are a great combination to make your look edgier.

I hope you all enjoy this outfit that I put together. Don’t forget some accessories to polish up yourself and have fun layering this fall!
