STYLE GURU STYLE: Season Switcheroo

Hello fellow Fashionistos and Fashionistas! This fall semester has been full of wonderful weather and I could not be more thrilled. With a cross between warm and windy climates, this weather has been absolutely prime for one main fashion trend: layering. Everyone is confused on what to wear, a dress or a sweater?! Well people, let’s put the two TOGETHER.

One trend that has been quite prominent this fall has been layering turtlenecks and dresses for an effortless, warm and cozy look. This combination, debuted by some of our favorite designers such as Tory Burch and Creatures of the Wind, has got us all swooning and reaching for our winter and fall wardrobe at the same time. So, this month, I am bringing you some friendly styling tips on how to rock this trend.

One of the trickiest parts of trying to put a turtleneck together with a dress is figuring out exactly which pieces go together well. For the turtleneck factor, I highly suggest going with a turtleneck that is quite form fitting and not too chunky. If the turtleneck is too big or even oversized, it will cause the dress on top to layer weird and will result in an unflattering texture (as the dress will not lay over the turtleneck smoothly). As for the actual dress part, you want to pick something that is quite flowy (nothing too tight fitting or conforming). I love picking pieces that have lots of elements to them to really make the ensemble pop.

For this trend, I picked an outfit that abides by the rules listed above. For my turtleneck, I picked a tight gray, ribbed turtleneck. For the dress layered on top, I picked a floral, chiffon dress with a charcoal base color that features an asymmetrical cut to it. I absolutely love the floral print (another trend prominent on the runway for fall as well, might I add) as it adds a pop of color into the outfit. Lastly, I topped off the look with my lace-up leather boots, a denim jacket and some silver hoop earrings in order to play with textures just a tad and add a little bit of dimension to the look!

I hope this helped inspire you ladies to go out into the world rocking this trend. Fall time is the best time to rock these kinds of layering trends, so I highly suggest taking advantage of them at this time during the fall semester. When you are done, you can easily transition all these turtlenecks you have laying around into the wintertime for when it gets colder. A fashion trend that is cute and efficient?? Has anything ever sounded more appealing???

Have a wonderful rest of your November, Fashionistas/os! Catch you next time!
