STYLE GURU STYLE: Plaid

This season, Alexander Wang went for an edgier, more tough girl look. This season was focused heavily on his textiles and pattern play. He decided to make most of his focus on his knits and how they were constructed. One thing that stood out in his dark collection was his use of plaid. Wang brought back the red and black plaid we knew from the 90s. Wang uses plaid to add a pop to his knits and create a edgier look. For his collection, Wang channeled a grungy vibe.

For my outfit, I loosely based it off his look. I wore my blue flannel and ditched any type of outerwear so the focus could be brought entirely to my flannel. The current trend for jackets is cropped, which is exactly why I went for a cropped flannel versus a long one. I’m not the type to look completely grunge, so I switched out his dark black pants for a lace skirt. It fits my personal style and the current weather. I also think it’s fun to contrast a runway look and make it your own. Of course platforms were a big part of his look; in fact most news sites mentioned how tall his platforms were, which is why I wore the tallest platforms in my collection to match the look. Since the runway look gave off a grunge vibe, I decided to wear my beanie, which always looks good with plaid.

Get My Look: 1. A flannel  2. A lace skirt. 3. A beanie. 4. Platforms.
