STYLE GURU STYLE: Let's Bring It Back

Denim on denim. WHAT?! This is outrageous and totally unacceptable. Well folks, here you have it.

I can’t seem to get enough of this ’90s trend. It truly embodies boldness and chicness as it requires total confidence in one’s body and choice. As much as I enjoy getting in touch with my feminine side by incorporating lace and ruffles into my outfits, I also dig this rather harsh and edgy look from time to time. It allows me to dress with flair while also being 100 percent comfortable. However, pairing denim with another denim is hands down intimidating at first. Personally, I was inspired by a picture of a working woman surrounded by the hustle and bustle of a big city, strutting down the streets with her sunglasses on.

For this outfit, I paired a chambray shirt with a pair of jeans with rips at the knees. Something about distressed denim fits well with the trend as it provides a bit of a breathing room from the blue and adds a fun twist. I wore my dark brown booties that complemented my Vera Bradley backpack. In my opinion, adding these dark brown accessories to my denim outfit adds diversity and mixture of textures. Lastly, I put on my favorite pair of sunglasses from Quay. As you can seen from the pictures, these mirror lenses tie the whole outfit together.

If you’re experimenting with this trend for the first time, I would suggest playing around with different shades of denim first. I’ve learned that because lighter shades tend to draw more attention, it’s more common to wear a darker pair of jeans with a lighter shade of denim on top. However, in the end, you are your own canvas, so free to wear whichever outfit that satisfies your adventurous soul.
