STYLE GURU STYLE: In The Olden Days

Hey there fellow Fashionistas! Today, we are taking it back a little to the Victorian era. Recently, spectacular designers such as Erdem and Zimmermann have been displaying their new found inspiration from the past. So, buckle in Fashionistas, because today I am showing you how to rock the style from the olden days.

When you think back to the time when Queen Victoria was all the rage, what first comes to mind? Ruffles. Lots and lots of Ruffles. Not one ruffle, two ruffles or three ruffles. We are talking about a million here. Many of our own favorite retailers such as Urban Outfitters and Forever 21 have already starting carrying many pieces that show the ruffle trend or have a hint of the old style in a tasteful way. This one from Urban Outfitters was a great piece to go with, as it has ruffles that are not overdone, making it a solid, modern take on the trend from Victoria.

Since sometimes the ruffles on the shirt can be quite loud, I suggest pairing the look with simple pieces that are not too overdone. If you want to make a stark contrast to make the ensemble a tad more edgy, I would suggest pairing a ruffle top with dark elements by incorporating dark colors, leather and loud prints. However, I would suggest going with more feminine pieces such as light wash denim and ballerina flats if a girly look sounds like your cup of tea. This is exactly what I did here, pairing my Victorian-esque top with a pair of destroyed light wash skinny jeans and some black, suede lace-up ballerina flats. To keep the ensemble girly, I threw on a floral cross-body bag, a dainty silver necklace and topped the look off with a baby pink leather jacket for warmth.

If you are having trouble figuring out what to rock this trend with, then do not worry. This trend is not for everyone. And sometimes that happens, but hey! A little confidence never hurt nobody, right? Whatever you end up rocking, make sure it makes YOU feel good. Catch you next time, Fashionistas!
