STYLE GURU BIO: Taylor Koontz

Hey everyone! My name is Taylor Koontz and this is my first semester as a Style Guru. I am currently a freshman at the Fashion Institute of Technology majoring in fashion business management and I hope to one day become a buyer or a fashion editor. I cannot wait to start such an exciting part of my life in one of the biggest fashion capitals of the world, where I’ll have five boroughs to explore and endless opportunities coming my way!

I was first introduced to the fashion industry in middle school when I started reading magazines such as Seventeen and Teen Vogue. Like any 13-year-old, my room had a plethora of Justin Bieber posters, and right next to the Biebs were my favorite fashion spreads, ripped out and taped onto my wall. While other kids were watching Pretty Little Liars, I preferred Project Runway (don’t worry, I’ve caught up on my teen dramas via Netflix).

Fashion is a great outlet for me because it provides creativity and freedom of self-expression in my everyday life. Whether I’m dressing for class or for a night out, I can make a statement through my outfit. My style is vintage oriented, and I love trends inspired by the ’60s, ’70s and ’90s, such as the skinny scarf, bold prints and high-waisted flare jeans. I like to keep the majority of my outfits simple and then play around with patterns and textures to give my outfits more dimension. Thrifting is my favorite way to find statement pieces, such as my jean jacket and black leather belt.

In addition to fashion, I enjoy going to concerts, playing volleyball, and reading. On weekends, you can find me going on adventures with my friends and discovering cool places to eat or art museums to explore, which are in abundance in New York City.

I am so excited to be a part of CollegeFashionista and cannot wait to share the trends and styles that I find this semester!
