STYLE GURU BIO: Rachel Kanaby

Hello, fellow fashion lovers! My name is Rachel Kanaby, and this is my first semester as a Style Guru! I could not be more excited to join this talented team of Style Gurus! I am currently taking courses to complete my bachelor’s degree in advertising and marketing communications at the Fashion Institute of Technology in Manhattan. It was just last spring that I earned my associate’s degree in fashion business management there as well. I truly have a passion for fashion and writing, so I am so thrilled to be able to have this opportunity in which I can combine both of my loves! I cannot wait to be on the lookout for the greatest and latest fashion trends around the FIT campus and see how they transform trends and outfits as we start off in winter and move to spring.

Fashion is amazing to me, and I really do love how much it always you to describe yourself to others and let people know a little bit of your personality without even saying a word. Personally, I have always had a growing love for the industry, from the first time I saw The Devil Wears Prada to my first retail job. I love to express myself through my makeup, jewelry, and shoes.

Most days I tend to dress casual and add my personality to the outfit with my shoe and jewelry choices. I LOVE jewelry and shoes just as much as I love pizza! To me, they always add something special to any outfit and can transform the outfit from simple to glam or from day to night. As you can see in the pictures above, I love to wear as much black as possible. It’s the New York girl in me! I chose this poncho sweater that features a bit of a cold shoulder since that is such a huge trend right now. I paired the top with simple, thick black leggings for warmth and comfort.

Now here come the accessories! I chose to use a over-the-knee boot with a pop of color. The burgundy color boots add a little interest and personality to the outfit. For my jewelry, I chose an earring and necklace set that go with each other and add some sparkle! A girl can never have too much sparkle. In addition, I added an assortment of rings that are a staple for me with every outfit choice.

I’m so glad I got to introduce myself and my style to you all! Be sure to follow my articles throughout the semester as I share all the latest trends around the FIT campus!
