STYLE GURU BIO: Kayla Winterton

Hello, Fashionistas/os! My name is Kayla Winterton and I attend Southern Illinois University with a major in Photography and a minor in Art. I am proud to say that this is my fourth semester as a Style Guru and I can’t wait to show you my take on street style fashion. Wait a moment, did I just say fourth semester? Wow…time sure does flies by. It seems just like yesterday that I was writing my first STYLE GURU BIO for CollegeFashionista, but in reality it was a year ago. It was last summer that I began my epic journey as a Style Guru and since then my life has changed. In fact, not only has my life changed, but also my confidence level has grown in my writing skills. No longer am I freaking and stressing out about writing 250 words per week while struggling to figure out what to convey. Now I enjoy the challenge of continually pushing myself to write better and photograph the best dressed Fashionistas out there each and every week.

Over the past year I have watched while my fashion sense has significantly matured. Gone are the days of plaid button-down shirts, graphic T-shirts and Converse (okay, maybe not my beloved broken-in pair of Converse sneakers) and have since been replaced with sleeker attire that usually involves the color black and the word boots. I love boots, especially military-style boots, and I don’t think the world can turn without them. Yes, I know, I’m being overly dramatic, but in general that’s how much I love boots. I also have a fascination with anything military green and military-inspired clothes definitely hold a special place in my heart. Right now the trends I am fascinated with are white pants (hope I don’t stain them!), ‘70s inspired fringe bags and hats, especially the floppy ones.

Even though I have really changed over the past year there is one thing that hasn’t altered and that is my dream of calling New York City my home one day—pretty obvious with the shirt I’m wearing, right? Ever since reading fashion magazines (you rock NYLON magazine!) as a teenager, I have officially become even more addicted to them with their glossy covers and beautiful imagery.

All in all, I have grown to really love and appreciate street style fashion and all I can say is I can’t wait to show you all of the fashionable people I discover this semester. Tune into CollegeFashionista every Wednesday to read and RAD my posts!
