STYLE GURU BIO: Haley Vest

Hello, Fashionistas/os! My name is Haley and I’m thrilled to be a Style Guru this fall. I am currently attending the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles, California and I will be capturing the best street style looks around campus and writing about them on CollegeFashionista for you all to read.

Los Angeles is an extremely fashionable city, and I am so excited to show you all that it has to offer. The fashion in Los Angeles is always very wide spread. I believe people take inspiration for their fashion within the city. There are so many different parts and neighborhoods of Los Angeles that each style in each area has something fresh and new to bring to the table.

Since I attend a fashion school, I feel extremely in touch with the fashion world and everything that is going on with it. I love seeing students around campus bringing the latest runway trends to the scene and how they interpret them into their everyday outfits.

I would definitely say that my personal style has shifted a lot throughout the years. I used to have a very preppy sense of fashion. It was odd, my sister would shop in Hot Topic and I’d be begging to get the latest polo from Ralph Lauren. While polo’s are back and on-trend, I have definitely veered from the preppy route. I do have my preppy days, but I just add a lot more edge to my outfits now. I mix high and low fashions and love a good sample sale (that is, if the line is reasonable!). I also am a die-hard fan of crop tops and two-piece matching outfits. My style is definitely evolving everyday but so far I love it.

White on white has been one of my favorite combinations this summer. It may seem scary at first, but once you try it you will fall in love. My top is from Nordstrom and my shorts are from Ralph Lauren. The key to pairing white on white is bringing some texture and dimension into the outfit. The shirt I am wearing has mesh and lace, which breaks up the white very nicely. Then I paired some fun animal print Sam Edelman sneakers with this outfit to spice it up!

I am so excited to be writing for CollegeFashionista and to show you all of the amazing fashion around FIDM’s campus.
