STYLE GURU BIO: Dominique Regalado

Hi Fashionista/os! My name is Dominique Regalado and this is my second semester as a CollegeFashionista Style Guru. I am a senior at Georgia State University and I am currently studying Journalism with a concentration in Multimedia and a minor in English. I couldn’t be more psyched to be a part of this amazing team again whom I’m learning so much from!

To me (and many of my fellow Fashionistas/os) style is an art and the ultimate form of expression. I like to think of myself as a fashion maven, a connoisseur of style, one who’s fashion perspective is their raison d’être. Although my love for fashion is complex, my personal style is fairly simple. I stick to black, shades of gray, neutrals and an occasional palette of pastels. These might be my go-tos; but as we all know style is ever-changing, ever-going and fads cycle back around like cars on a Ferris wheel.

On that note, my attempts to be fashionable are usually watered down versions of looks and collections from some of my favorite designers; Alexander McQueen, Roberto Cavalli, Valentino and Chanel. Yet lately, aspects of new designers like Alexander Wang and Adam Selman have been stealing my attention and inspiring my latest style efforts.

For years, I have adored the women of fashion and everything that goes into putting a fashion magazine together. While some girls crazed over Justin Bieber and other pop culture figures, I was obsessing over the high fashion world. Innovative women like the legendary Grace Coddigton and Carlyne Cerf de Dudzeele are what fuel my love for fashion and inspire me to think outside the box. Instinctively, every time I look at my all-time favorite cover of Vogue (which is of course, the November issue of 1988 with Michaela Bercu), I get a surge of empowerment. Mixing street style with high fashion, cheap with expensive, is what I thrive on in my personal style. And if you know me, you know anything with denim is my lover.

I do my best to think creatively while keeping it functional and cool. Even if I can’t afford the high fashion pieces I would like to incorporate in my everyday style, I try my best to mimic affordable with more expensive garbs. I try to relay that in my writing for girls that, like me, wish they could wear things like that.

As you can see from my STYLE GURU BIOS, I lack quite a bit of smiling. I may seem serious but that’s only because I’m seriously in love with fashion! Nothing makes me swoon more than to write about style and the like. One day, I hope to see my work splattered in editorial pieces of my favorite fashion magazines. I could probably talk some more but I’m running out of space (meaning I’m about to exceed my word limit). Can’t wait until we talk more this semester! Make sure to RAD all the articles you like, guys and gals.
