STYLE GURU BIO: Alexandra Howard

From the first time I reached for the scissors to chop my own bangs for a more Madonna’s daughter, Lourdes Leon, circa 2009 look, I knew fashion and style were my passions. I’m currently a junior at the College of Charleston majoring in communications but I’m also an avid concert goer. I’ve grown up around music—pretty much every genre of music you can think of—and because of that I pull from the styles of different artists or performers like Janis Joplin’s layered accessories, Taylor Momsen’s dark and daring outfits or Selena Gomez’s laid back fashion. In the fall you’ll typically find me at backyard concerts or impromptu house shows around Charleston, South Carolina in a sweater dress, ripped tights and my grey ankle boots.

As my faux Lordes Leon bangs grew out, I developed a love for Stevie Nicks’ hippie vibe and her flowy kimono that continues to influence me today. When the summer comes around, the other side of my fashion taste reemerges—the inner hippie. My go-to summer outfit is definitely a pair of the loosest and most light washed ripped jeans, a cute bralette and loose shirt with my signature blue, metallic Birkenstocks. When I’m not jamming to local bands, like Del Sur, I spend my summer times scuba diving wherever I get the chance to! My favorite part about fashion is that I can go from being ready to go scuba diving head to toe to showcasing a totally different side of myself by the way I dress.

Above all, my favorite part of Charleston is that you can find every type of style I’ve previously mentioned all on your way to class daily. Charleston’s such a fashionably diverse city with a lot of interesting characters residing there. I plan to capture the various looks on the College of Charleston campus and show y’all how simple it is to add a little Chucktown into your wardrobe!

How I dress depends on my mood and today I was feeling rocker-chic! I paired a pleated skort with knee-high boots, a green coat, a black tank top and bralette—a perfect outfit for a concert or a day out and about in Charleston!

I can’t wait to get started writing for CollegeFashionista and checking out my fellow Style Gurus’ pieces from around the US! Much love, good vibes and let’s have a RAD summer!
