STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Can I Kick It?

People always say that women are obsessed with shoes. While that may be true, we seem to totally disregard the fact that men also fetishize their shoes. My brother and I were recently discussing our sneaker purchases in the past year. I thought my purchase of three pairs was outrageous but I was shocked to hear my brothers response. 20 pairs. In the past year alone, he had purchased 20 pairs of sneakers! He attributes it to the fact that he is a sneakerhead. A sneakerhead is someone who collects, trades and sells sneakers. It is someone who can distinguish a knockoff from the real thing. It is someone who believes that you can never have too many pairs of sneakers. The movement began in the ’80s around the time Michael Jordan released the first pair if Air Jordans. With the emergence of collectible signature sneakers came an obsession for collection. Thirty years later, and the movement is still on the rise.

Sneakerheads everywhere are letting their shoes do the talking. This Fashionista is no different. His shocking New Balance sneakers are pulling eyes left and right. The pair serves as a killer pop of color to his look. He paired his kicks with a pair of all black joggers. The pants are a simple contrast and the cinched ankles highlight the sneakers. His slouchy gray hoodie adds personality and comfort to this Fashionisto’s ensemble. To top off his look (literally!), he adds a backwards Knicks snapback. Whether planned or not, the black plays to the simplicity of the clothing and the orange plays to the shock of sneakers.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Music is my number one inspiration when it comes to style. I look to my icons for the freshest trends. G-Eazy and A$AP Rocky have been killing the game lately. I like to see how they are wearing certain trends then I alter it to fit my personal style”.
