STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Keeping It Casual

Style Advice of the Week

Through midterms, presentations and finals, most days us college Fashionistas are longing to be stylish yet comfortable.  We want to look the Fashionista part, we just don’t have the time to put in all the extra effort. Chic-casual can be the cure for this dilemma. This isn’t your usual jeans and T-shirt type of get up, but it’s comfortable, effortless and cute.

This Howard University student does chic-casual perfect. From her outfit you get the gist that she’s stylish, comfortable and that she did it all with little effort. Her anorak gives her ensemble a little color, not to mention anoraks are huge on college campuses. Her tights also play a very big role. They make this outfit chic instead of just casual. Most importantly, this was easy. She set a color scheme and made a wonderful creation from basic staple pieces.

Chic casual can be done a lot of ways. I’d suggest getting your casual outfit together and just throwing a trendy item or two on top. Tweak your outfit to your liking and pick a trend that you can make your own. See how you can style your most basic pieces and the best trends to mix them with. For further help, look to some blogs for inspiration like TheStylePlaylist, Anna Saccone and OrangeMilkPeel. These blogs do chic-casual great because these ladies are either in school or working regular everyday jobs. Even their outfits with chunky heels can be swapped for flats for the girls that may be a little scared of heights.

Shop looks similar to this Fashionista’s and come up with your own very chic, casual outfit and apply it to the days you want to be dressed down but still stylish. Find your coat, tights and slip-ins on ASOS and a similar scarf on Urban Outfitters.
