BEAUTY BAR: Dreading Finals

Right about now, everyone is slowly starting to feel finals season creeping up on them. We’ve all compared our schedules to see when our last final is so our summers can begin. Although, the warmer weather helps ease the mind through it all. Typically in the springtime, people like to try new things and reinvent themselves. It’s the whole idea of spring cleaning: out with the old and in with the new. A defining characteristic of a person that can make them stand out is their hair. Everyone sees hair, so if you’re going to rock a drastically different hairstyle, you better do it right. Here in Brooklyn I see it all, from pink hair to cheetah print dyed hair (yes I’ve really seen that) to beehive updos to multi-colored braids. But, one cannot forget the classic Jamaican-style hair, the dreadlocks. Dreadlocks are typically done with longer hair, but this Fashionisto is looking killer with his short dreads. Not only are his dreads short, but they are dyed blonde at the end. This is an extremely unique style that I have not seen much of before. This makes his stand out among the crowds. He truly does pull off the dreads.

Hair is one thing that you can wear just about any outfit with regardless of the style of hair. With dreads, this Fashionisto can wear just about anything and pull it off. With his outfit of choice, he took a bit of a classier route. He chose a dark wash pair of jeans with the classic suede desert chukka boots. For his shirt he chose a dark, patterned button-down and paired that nicely with a lighter, tan peacoat. For his accessories he has chosen a chic watch with a leather strap and a patterned, silver ring. He also has flat, silver earrings in.

What’s on the BEAUTY BAR: Many salons can do a dread perm, but it is quite simple to do yourself if you have the patience. First, make sure your hair is the desired length and color you want before having dreads. Now to do DIY dreads, put simply, you can separate your hair into sections and tie them off with rubberbands. Then start to tease your hair towards your scalp. After a while, the dreads will start to form. Enjoy!
