BEAUTY BAR: 50 Shades of Red

As I’m packing up my bathing suits and soaking up the last weeks of sunshine, I’ve also realized that it’s time to start adjusting my everyday style to fit the cool and crisp weather that is inevitably coming. That being said, it is still too warm here at Villanova to start pulling out sweaters and boots, so the best place to changing things up is definitely in the beauty department. While a nude lip looks naturally radiant in the summer heat, fall approaching means that we can trade in the gloss for a richer shade that will complement warm fall tones.

Red lips have always been a classic and feminine look, but they are getting a serious revamping this fall with the domination of Pantone’s color of the year, marsala. This wine colored red-brown can be seen this fall in apparel, handbags and accessories, from haute couture designers all the way down to multinational retail chains. This color has already had a huge impact on apparel and is now ready to also take over beauty. This warm, rich red is the perfect fall lip color that you have been searching for, giving a refreshed take on a classic look.

This Fashionista does just that! Since shiny lipsticks can be too dramatic for daytime, she wears a matte lip tint that creates a more natural appearance. The deeper shade of red also gives her look a modern and edgy twist. Most importantly, she knows just how to pull off a strong lip color without it overpowering the rest of her ensemble. This Fashionista balances out the color on her face with a neutral outfit and accessories, and also incorporates two other hot fall trends: grid pattern and ear pins. Utilizing these three fabulous fall looks together creates an easy formula for pulling off red lips in style!

What’s on the BEAUTY BAR: To get this Fashionista’s look, try her Tarte matte lip tint. She is rocking the color Envy, but I love that this product is also available in a multitude of red tones so that anyone can find their perfect shade. I’m going to pick mine up in marsala! Since her red lips are the focal point of her look, the rest of her makeup is downplayed so it doesn’t overshadow the eye catching color. In order to do this, keep the eyes subtle yet defined by using Tarte’s liquid eyeliner on your top lid with black mascara. To complete her look, this Fashionista used Mac foundation, Tarte double-ended contour and highlighter, and Tarte cheek stain which are all long lasting face products that will keep your skin looking just as fresh as your lips!
