ALL IN THE DETAILS: The Painted Lady

They say that “diamonds are a girl’s best friend,” but I consider myself as a classy woman so I say give me pearls. Like the character Holly Golightly in the 1961 American romantic comedy Breakfast at Tiffany’s, starring Audrey Hepburn, I too browse the window displays of Tiffany’s & Co. while consuming a French press and butter croissant from Starbucks. Although I’m obsessed with fashion, my true love lies in jewelry. I could spend countless hours trying every individual piece I own and making absolute sure I chose the right ones and amounts.

But from my Principles of Design class, I found that to save time, let your clothing do the “talking.” That is what I love about the details of this Fashionista’s ensemble, particularly her skirt.

The strokes of various shades of red, blue, pink, orange and few splashes of green complements the crisp-white background of her knee-high skirt; it’s as though the Fashionista was wrapped in a canvas of a water color masterpiece. What amazes me even more is that something so simplistic speaks for the entire outfit itself, and that no accessories are needed. This Fashionista did right by keeping it minimal with a black fitted blazer and little to no white jewelry; this also played into her color-blocking skills.

How To: If you are not a jewelry fanatic but want to achieve a simple look with a bit of pop, find a statement piece such as a vibrant print skirt. Try to keep it at a knee-length and pair it with a fitted jacket and flats for a professional look. Or pair them with a pair of pointed toe heals for a night time look.
