ALL IN THE DETAILS: Shearling Chic

If you choose to remember one defining characteristic about me, please let it be my undying, irrational love for denim. My bank account will tell you I’m a sucker for a nice, thrifted denim piece (and for the not-so-nice thrifted denim pieces because sometimes it’s hard to tell, so you just pull the trigger and your spontaneous purchase betrays you).

As much as I enjoy covering every inch of my body in denim, I’ll be the first to admit, a single coating of denim doesn’t always do the trick come winter. That’s why my heart convulsed when I spotted this Fashionista, chic as ever, wrapped up in this iconic, shearling-lined denim jacket. She honorably opted for faux shearling outerwear because, as I suspect, the sheep didn’t do anything to her. Of course! Fleece lining is the answer to all our frostbitten prayers.

This Fashionista’s versatile look is perfect for any daytime occasion that requires you to appear presentable and not freeze. Black tights should have become one with your legs by this point in the season and you should accept them as a second skin. Her black turtleneck is a timeless classic, and her textured skirt adds interest by breaking up the solid-colored components.

The sunglasses say, “Please don’t talk to me, I am very busy and very important, and not to mention very late for wherever I’m supposed to be.” Her quintessential black booties mirror the chic simplicity of the rest of the look and are the epitome of comfort and style.

Whether you’re walking to class (or if you’re like me, running because you were supposed to be there 10 minutes ago), going on a casual date (which you actually wouldn’t do either if you’re like me because you have the conversational skills of a shelled peanut), or simply wanting to leave the house feeling confident, you’ll turn heads effortlessly in this sophisticated, trendy look.

Take this outfit from day to night by replacing the skirt with a light colored slip dress to layer over the turtleneck. Maybe lose the shades—you’re not Anna Wintour—and if you’re desperately seeking some edge, swap out the denim for a black leather jacket.
