ALL IN THE DETAILS: FYI, Dad Hats Are Cool Now

For years now, I have been getting angry texts daily from my mother asking where her new Louis Vuitton shoes went, if I have her Lanvin shirt and did I wear her J. Crew pants. I am the QUEEN of taking (both literally and mentally) style notes from my mother, as I am sure many of us are.

Breaking news guys: try taking a style note from your dad! I don’t mean wearing Uncle Dan shirts and rocking Patagonia, I mean his dad hats or baseball caps.

Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock, you’ve probably noticed the rest of us have been under this new accessory that’s been creeping into your life. The baseball cap is an interesting accessory—plain ones and ones with cute sayings and logos all can add a special element to an outfit. If you don’t already stalk Kylie Jenner, take a look at her insta feed and you’ll see she is a huge fan of this trend. She goes to the extreme with it by wearing it with higher end clothing, dresses, skirts and so on.

I generally like to throw on a cool hat when a: my hair is not cooperating that day, or b: when my outfit needs some spice to it. In the photos, I have shown my friend Emily, who is a highly skilled accessorizer. You can already tell from her necklaces but she pairs a plain canvas hat with an outfit that maybe wouldn’t especially stand out on its own without.

It adds an edge and an effortlessly chic quality to your outfit, something I think everyone should put into their every day look.

For those who are still dad-hatless, Brandy Melville, Topshop, PacSun and your dad’s closet are a good start. So hats off to our dad’s for being the inspiration for this cool girl trend!
