ALL IN THE DETAILS: Floral Meets Lace

Whoever said that mixing patterns was a bad idea was way off the mark. The transition between summer and fall is always a difficult time to find the right outfit. A way to work with the pieces you have in your closet during this time period is by mixing textures and patterns. Mixing trends like floral dresses and kimonos can be tricky, but this Fashionista does it well. Pairing textures like lace with a floral print is the perfect way to make a summer look more appropriate for the transition into fall. I am all about using what is in your closet to create new and exciting outfits and this Fashionista does just that.

The black floral pattern dress with ruffle accents is paired with a lace kimono with fringe details. The dress by itself may look too much like a summer outfit, so this Fashionista used some creativity and added a kimono to make it more appropriate for this time of year. Brown and gold sandals are shown, but a simple change to make this outfit even more fall appropriate would be to add a simple nude flat or even a neutral colored slip-on sneaker. The mix of patterns makes a statement so accessories do not need to be loud. Pairing this outfit with a simple gold watch and other gold accessories allows the floral and lace to speak for itself.

How To: Go shopping in your own closet. Mix and match pieces from the summer and fall seasons. Pair a patterned summer sundress with a fall-inspired kimono. You can also change up the outfit with a neutral sneaker or bootie.
