WHAT TO WEAR: Summer

If you live in Pittsburgh, you know that summer weather equals humidity. Now, it’s not quite summer yet, but the temperature sure feels like it, and us college students are out of school so it’s pretty much summer. I don’t know about you guys, but I’m always nervous about wearing an outfit that I’ll be too hot in—especially if I’m going out for the day and won’t be back home (though I always pack back-up outfits. I’m weird). But, for those of you that don’t pack a back-up outfit, you’re going to want to get it right the first go around. So, in order to be cute, comfy and weather appropriate, I’ve pretty much solved your humid summer wardrobe worries.

First of all, looking cute and unique is most important (for those of us that are fashion lovers, at least), so I’m trying to give an alternative to the jean short and tank top combo (though I will say, it is tried and true). What I’ve figured out that may be even more comfortable than that and more comfortable than a dress is displayed on this Fashionista: the flowy romper.

Now, there are many different types of rompers—some of which are tight, some with loads of cutouts, and some made from denim (aka shortalls). Though I’m pretty much a fan of all types of rompers, the flowy romper such as this one is perfect for a hot and humid day. Even if you get sweaty (actually, especially if you get sweaty), this thing won’t be sticking to your butt and legs and will provide room for airflow. While proving to be utilitarian, this romper is also high on the cute factor. The pattern is inconsistent in a fun way and is flirty but also youthful. The fact that it’s a romper also allows the worry of flashing people to be squashed. Since the romper has a lot of pattern going on, pairing it with a simple grey crop top is ideal, or something of the like.

For a day of walking, a pair of TOMS shoes is a good choice for footwear, or a pair of comfy Birkenstocks. Last but not least, bringing a nice ol’ jean jacket is great for the possibility of chilly nights. This outfit, along with an interesting cross-body bag (fringe for the fringe-lovers) makes for the perfect summer day/night—ask anyone. Or try it out and see for yourself.

One Simple Change: For a slightly more polished look, swap the jean jacket for a leather jacket and you’re ready for a night on the town.
