WHAT TO WEAR: Summer

July 30th, 2015 at 2:00am

The perfect summer outfit is extremely difficult to achieve. You want it to look effortless, yet put together. You want to include accessories, but not too many that they ruin the laid back feel. Lastly, the largest challenge is the fact that it’s hot outside, which means too many layers or heavy fabrics will leave you feeling uncomfortable and lethargic. However, too little fabric may be inappropriate for certain activities, for example a nice brunch, which makes assembling the outfit even more challenging. Luckily, I have some summertime inspiration for you that will make compiling looks a lot easier.

This Fashionista is rocking the perfect daytime look for summer as she is out and about in the city. What I love about her outfit is that it’s trendy as well as practical. I often see people rocking platform sandals while walking long distances in the city—and although they look really fashionable, their clear discomfort almost ruins the outfit’s effect. This Fashionista does a great job of dressing for the heat without showing too much skin by pairing a crop top with high-waisted shorts. The addition of the vest is a perfect complement to the shorts and top because the longer length adds the illusion of more fabric without the added heat. The plaid pattern of the vest also adds more of a ’90s feel to the ensemble. The fact that she paired the outfit with black combat boots really pulls the whole look together and makes it look much more fashionable than if she would have opted for sandals or sneakers. Lastly, I love her leather backpack as opposed to a normal purse. Not only is it perfect for being out and about in the city, but it also contributes to the ’90s feel I mentioned earlier. Dressing for summertime in the city is a huge challenge, but this Fashionista managed to make it look effortlessly-chic while also remaining cool and collected.

One Simple Change: As fall approaches, this outfit is really easy to transition to the cooler temperatures. Simply replace the shorts with high-waisted jeans and the tank top with a cropped long sleeve shirt.
