WHAT TO WEAR: Formal

February 2nd, 2015 at 2:10am

As we approach the college student in their natural habitat you will notice sweatpants, a hoodie maybe a T-shirt. Oh do you smell that? Coffee. Yes. They drink lots of it. The typical college schedule is chaotic and unforgiving. Many students resort to cozy clothing because it is convenient. We can’t wear our favorite band T-shirt all the time though (sad face, I know). Squeezed into our ever so hectic schedule is the occasional formal event, A.K.A the time for us to trade in our sweats for our suits. Formals are fantastic opportunities for students to network and make connections that will be beneficial to them in the future. It is imperative that students come dressed to impress. Think dashing business professional for the guys and dazzling formal for the ladies.

While the thought of splurging on a three-piece suit may not seem appealing, it is important to do so. Having a well-tailored suit is a blessing, seriously! Although you might have to dish out a decent sum of cash you will be doing so comfortably and in style. This Fashionisto finally made the decision to invest in one this winter, and the rewards are apparent. Knowing that you don’t have to adjust your suit constantly will give you that extra confidence boost when networking. Who said suits have to be boring? Have fun mixing and matching colors and patterns to create a look with personality. This Fashionisto opted for a multicolored striped tie to break up the navy ensemble.

Accessories can make or break an outfit. That gold watch? It definitely made this outfit. Adding shine to this monochromatic look drew eyes to his wrists and helped this Fashionisto stand out in a crowd. He paired his navy trousers with brown loafers and a pair of funky socks. Seeing a peep of pizazz when the hem of his trousers rise will help relay his spunky personality without him even having to speak.

Getting lost in an important, crowded room can be easy. Have fun with your outfit choices, and let your clothes do the talking. Remember, you can never take back your first impression so make it a good one!

One Simple Change: So your look helped you secure an interview at a firm you’ve been eyeing? First of all, heck yeah! Second of all, that suit is going to come in handy. Swap out the trousers for a pair of khaki pants and eliminate the vest for a more laid back, business casual ensemble. You’re good to go.
