WHAT TO WEAR: Class

With busy schedules, school work and life getting in the way of it all, we all have those days where you sleep through your alarm and wake up late for a class that you cannot afford to miss…again. In this classic college student scenario, there could be two possible endings. You could either roll out of bed and run to class in the PJs you’ve been stewing in all weekend, or you could put together an effortlessly chic outfit that makes it seem like you had all morning to plan what you were going to wear. Just like this Fashionista, I would take the second option because no one would benefit from you sitting through a two-hour class wearing pungent clothes.

When it comes to putting together a last minute outfit, the best way to make yourself look well put together is by layering different pieces of clothing. As you all may know, layering appropriate pieces together and making it look good is one of the hardest concepts in fashion, but it is something that this Fashionista does so successfully. Wearing a geometrically printed dress over a blue collard shirt is a great way to make a very monochromatic piece stand out and make it the focal point of your outfit. Knowing that classrooms may get cold, it is always a good idea to wear a jacket or in this case layer on two different types of jackets in order to stay warm and look cool while doing it. Playing off of the blue of the collar, this Fashionista threw on a white, washed denim jacket and a khaki trench coat that is muted enough to not overpower any of the other pieces in her ensemble.

As for accessories, she is wearing a pair of black lace-up leather platform boots with a pair of black leggings. It keeps with the silhouette and color of the black geometric dress consistent. Throwing on a pair of multicolored earrings to add a pop of color to your outfit completes the effortlessly chic layering masterpiece you managed to put together ten minutes before being late to class.

One Simple Change: Was class overwhelming? Do you want to just go and relax downtown and have a drink with your girls? One easy way to turn your outfit from classroom chic to night out ready is to switch out the trench coat for the classic leather jacket. It still keeps the layering aspect of your outfit but just adds that extra edginess for a night out with friends.
