WHAT TO WEAR: Back To School

Now that we’re midway through September, back-to-school season is in full swing. Since the first few weeks of school are over, most people have worn all of their new clothes and are now stuck trying to make last year’s garments look new again. Styling old clothes in new ways can definitely be challenging, but this Fashionista has it all figured out with one creative step: mixing patterns. I used to believe mixing patterns was a major rule breaker, a sin in the world of fashion. However, I later realized that the beauty of fashion is that it has no rules because it’s an industry full of self expression. That being said, there are still patterns that have no business being paired together, but finding the right balance is the perfect way to make an outfit stand out.

This look is perfect for class because the plaid shirt provides that classic, preppy back-to-school vibe, while the camouflage studded military jacket gives the outfit an edgy twist. Pairing the two patterns with simple black jeans, booties and a faux leather bag allows the patterns to stand out and make a statement on their own. This outfit’s best feature is its versatility. It can easily be worn without the jacket for the warm end-of-summer days still ahead, but is also the perfect layer to add during those chilly September nights and the cold fall days that are right around the corner.

Love the outfit but want a more casual vibe? Switch out the booties for a classic pair of black converse and throw on some dark wash ripped jeans instead. This will give the outfit a less polished, more laid-back look.

This Fashionista is ready to take on the school year, now it’s your turn to start mixing patterns and reinvent your back to school wardrobe!
