The CollegeFashionista Mentorship Program

As previously mentioned, as part of CollegeFashionista’s commitment to empowering our readers and Style Gurus, we have launched the CollegeFashionista Mentorship Program. We have paired some of our current rockstar Style Gurus with CollegeFashionista alumni to act as mentors.

Each month, we will be checking-in with and highlight some of the mentor-mentee pairings to see what they have learned from one another through the process and sharing this insight with you the reader!

RainyPaul

Rainy Paul, University of San Diego

What is your favorite part about being a menteee? I’m learning from Lauren’s experiences and am gaining inside knowledge as to what a day in the life of the fashion world is like. My mentor has unique advice that has helped me better develop my writing skills for both CollegeFashionsta and my own personal blog as well as what to search for in the job hunting process for after graduation. I’m so lucky to have her as an inspiration.

What is one thing you have learned from your mentor? I learned how important it is to have an open mind and to try new things, especially when it comes to your career. Whether you covered it in your major or not, you never know if you will end up loving it.

Describe your mentor in three words. Happy. Driven. Creative.

LaurenSnyder

Lauren Snyder, PR Assistant at American Eagle Outfitters

What is your favorite part about being a mentor? Taking the time to reflect on the whirlwind that was my senior year of college has been one of my favorite parts about being a mentor. The opportunity to pass along advice and (hopefully!) inspiration during such an exciting time is one of the best feelings.

What is one thing you have learned from your mentee? I’ve loved getting to know more about Rainy’s life on the west coast! It’s so cool to contrast our experiences on opposite sides of the country and learn more about the fashion industry in California. Remind me again why I’m not living where it’s an endless summer?

Describe your mentee in three words. Kind. Ambitious. RAD.

SofRodriguez

Sof Rodriguez, Florida State University

What is your favorite part about being a mentee? My favorite part about being a mentee is that I have someone to give me advice whenever I need it, especially from someone who “gets it” and has been through the same situations.

What is one thing you have learned from your mentor? Alex taught me that I will hear “no” a lot more than I’ll hear “yes,” but that shouldn’t stop me from following my dreams and it shouldn’t discourage me from applying to jobs.

Describe your mentor in three words. Alex is lovely, hardworking and creative.

AlexPeacher

Alex Peacher, Copywriter at The RealReal

What is your favorite part about being a mentor? I like the thought of helping and keeping someone inspired to accomplish their dreams.

What is one thing you have learned from your mentee? It reminds me of when I first moved to the city. I was always on my toes looking for the next opportunity. I think this is something I need to find in myself again!

Describe your mentee in three words. Sof is driven, a dreamer and extremely rad.
