STYLE GURU STYLE: Wrapping Up the Semester

May 3rd, 2016 at 2:10am

There’s nothing quite like the end of another drawn-out semester, students wander campuses uninhibited, and begin to toss the thought of grades, as well as their syllabi for all the classes they’ve completed into the trash. While some may choose to finish their last few moments on campus in comfort, the best way to make the most of your time is by spending it in style. No designer is better at wrapping things up than the queen of the wrap dress herself, Diane von Furstenberg. Her preppy yet polished design aesthetic is a sure-fire way to make a lasting impression on that special someone that you’ve been crushing on since syllabus week.

The Diane von Furstenberg 2016 resort collection stays true to the DVF brand. Bold prints in classic silhouettes provide a new twist on an ageless sense of style that Fashionistas and Fashionistos alike may find themselves attempting to mirror. I too, found myself wondering, “What would Diane von Furstenberg do?” while putting together this outfit. I was particularly influenced by look 10 of this resort collection, which is why I chose to wear a horizontal striped dress.

In order to totally embody the Diane von Furstenberg look, I intentionally tied the dress so that it resembled the classic wrap dress silhouette. I modernized the overall look by choosing a dress that was mid-length instead of a dress with a shorter hemline. Incorporating a trendy pair of shoes also keeps this look from appearing aged or overdone. In this instance, I opted for a pair of brown lace-up heels, but if you’re going for more of an athleisure look you could easily swap out the heels for a pair of statement sneakers. Choosing to accessorize minimally, in order to stay true to the DVF aesthetic, I topped off the look with a pair of iridescent earrings and a lace choker because as Taylor Swift wrote on her Instagram, “I feel like maybe chokers are the new flower crowns.” Add on a fun tote bag for an unexpected way to carry your life in a bag, and you’ll be set to wrap up classes looking RAD!

Get My Look: 1. A mid-length wrap dress. 2. A choker necklace. 3. Statement tote bag.
