STYLE GURU STYLE: White After Labor Day? Okay!

I’ve never been the type of girl to follow the strict fashion rules like: “No white after Labor Day.” If there is anything that I love, it is breaking the rules. In fact, one can suppose that fashion rules were mean to be broken. Another thing that tickles my fancy is mixing and matching the basics. I think that basic pieces and silhouettes, and mixed and matched neutrals, create for chic looks that can stand the test of time in the ever-changing world of fashion. Although I love basic colors and pieces, that isn’t to say that I don’t love putting my own twist on staple items.

For my look, I was inspired by a few things. The first being the Hermés fall 2015 ready-to-wear collection. I loved the basic colors that were used. The collection featured classic pieces, paired with contemporary ones, which translated to effortless and timeless looks. Another aspect that was beautiful to me was the synergy of menswear and women’s’ wear silhouettes that were displayed throughout the show.

Deriving my inspiration from that, I created a look. I decided to go with a graphic black and white T-shirt. The silhouette of the shirt is more boxy and masculine which reminded me of some of the shapes from the runway show. The graphics displayed consist of a clean, neat graphic, which I enjoy because of its versatility. I paired the simple T-shirt with white denim jeans. The shape of the jeans contrasts to that of the top; they are fitted to my body adding a bit of femininity. When accessorizing by outfit, I had to pair it with a hat because I’ve been way too obsessed with them lately. I chose a camel colored, wide-brimmed fedora, which I felt balanced out the black and white in the outfit without being too overbearing. Adding a sporty twist to the look to make it appropriate for everyday activities, I finished it off with a simple pair of Nike free run sneakers.

I find myself emulating and recreating looks like this one because of the sheer simplicity of the outfit. Basic pieces are versatile and provide for endless possibilities to accessorize and make it your own without having to go out and buy new pieces each season.
