STYLE GURU STYLE: Tommy Thigh Highs

As I’ve probably mentioned before, my leather jacket is something I cannot live without. Leather, whether it’s pants, a skirt or a jacket, will always give your outfit an edge. Naturally, when I see leather in a runway show I’m drawn to it since I feel like I can incorporate the trends into my everyday looks, and that’s exactly what happened with the Tommy Hilfiger fall 2016 ready-to-wear collection.

This month Tommy Hilfiger debuted its long-anticipated collaboration with Gigi Hadid during New York Fashion Week. Gigi’s influence in the designs was evident with the show’s inclusion on thigh highs in a few of the looks. She’s made thigh high boots into a current trend, and that influence was seen on the runway. I decided to pull out my tights (which are over-the-knee socks all in one) and build my outfit from there.

As fall begins, the sweaters are coming out of the back of my closet. I took advantage of this sleeveless knit sweater to go along with the show’s use of loose long knit sweaters. I love the detail of the side slits on the sweater, especially with the tights. As I mentioned, the use of leather was predominant in the show. I took full advantage of that as well to wear my leather jacket, because every outfit is better with layers. The outfits with the thigh highs all were paired with black booties. I didn’t get creative there; I just pulled out my most used pair of black booties. Lastly, most looks included a fringe bandana in the show. I liked the idea of necklace better than a bandana, and this fringe necklace was perfect. The necklace is one of those few good fashion choices from my high school days.

If you’re stuck in a routine of wearing the same outfits over and over again or just wearing what everyone on Instagram seems to be wearing, I encourage you to look at runway shows. Seeing other people’s creativity can spark yours or push you to wear something you otherwise wouldn’t have. Take a chance and be bold in your style.
