STYLE GURU STYLE: Surrender To Suspenders

Milan Fashion Week attendees probably should have prepared themselves for a refreshing dose of classic and chic business attire at Dondup’s fall 2015 ready-to-wear collection. The Italian luxury fashion house and famous denim company named the brand after a Tibetan Dalai Lama named Mingyar Dondup. His motto, which inspired the brand was, “All men were created equal; color and religion mean nothing.”

Manuela Mariotti, creative director of the brand, channeled different eras, revealing an elegant but grungy take on her designs modeled in Milan this past week. Besides using her imagination, Mariotti drew her fashion inspiration from nature, history and texture. Her innovative designs and bold creativity capture the perfect shades of indigo and other colors.

As a Fashionista and fine art lover, I admire collections that hold meaning behind them. I recreated one of Mariotti’s chic business professional designs. I am wearing a white, loose-fitting blouse with three-quarter length sleeves tucked into a pair of bootleg gray slacks. I completed my outfit with a pair of black cutout boots and navy blue suspenders.

Although Mariotti used many bright reds and bold leopard print fabrics on the runway, I was especially inspired by her effortless attempt at creating the perfect line of menswear for women. The suspenders are what lured me in but as I was mesmerized by the collection, the neutral tones and shades of grays, whites and blacks caught my eye.

Get My Look: 1. A pair of gray slacks. 2. A day to night pink lipstick. 3. A white blouse.
