STYLE GURU STYLE: Structure and Suede

The Burberry fall 2015 ready-to-wear collection is full of beautiful tops and embellished thigh-high suede boots. It featured model after model wearing amazingly textured ponchos, oversized capes and vibrant fur coats. And those shoes, my goodness—thank God for suede.

Ever since I first saw those stunning Stuart Weitzman boots, I knew I needed a pair like them. Fun fact: Coach is buying Stuart Weitzman. Fortunately, suede over-the-knee boots have been huge this season, and you can find a pair whatever your budget may be. I got mine from H&M, and they look fabulous with everything. My sweater is an amazing mock neck, boxy number from Madewell. It is so unbelievably warm. It was 27 degrees out, but I managed without a coat in this sweatshirt.

I think a great way to translate runway trends into your looks is to pick one aspect of the trend to imitate. I find that silhouette’s are a good place to start. The Burberry collection was so colorful, but I’m more of a black and grey person. The inspiration for my outfit came from a combination of several outfits in the show, but specifically the beautiful teal poncho and crazy cool patterned suede boots. Taking the shape but keeping my signature color palette still makes the outfit feel comfortable. Perhaps you are a colorful fashionista and you would draw inspiration from the beautiful patterns in the line. I took inspiration from the oversized cozy-chic vibe of the show. You can do the same and be inspired by one aspect of a runway show. It will help you to view the pieces in your closet in a new light, and create a more versatile wardrobe. Stay warm and happy styling.
