Though I may not be going to the gym as much as I should be this summer, I am channeling my inner athlete with the popular new chic sportswear. Since I wasnโt quite ready to don my spandex just yet, I went the more chic and less sporty route by taking my own twist on Alexander Wangโs spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection.
Wangโs entire collections is full of super sporty outfits. He has taken sportswear and redesigned it for a higher end look that is so simple but also sophisticated. Inspired by his known love for sneakers, it is said that Wang has reimagined all kinds of different sneakers into full blown outfits. For example, he has transformed the Nike Flyknits into bodycon dresses in bright neon colors with a structured black pattern. He has also taken adidasโ revamp of the โ70s Stan Smith classic and reconstructed them into none other than a white tennis dress with a green Peter Pan collar.
The Stan Smith sneaker was also one that I looked to for inspiration in my sporty-chic outfit. These sneakers have quickly become one of my favorites. I love how simple and clean they are and the pop of green completes the nod to the โ70s. I chose a skort to pair with my sneakers. Remember skorts from way back in the โ90s? Well, theyโre coming back! I love this pleated black one that Iโm wearing; itโs the proper salute to the sneakersโ tennis history and also brings in a preppy aspect to the outfit. Finally, I picked a simple white top from Primark, which I tucked in to keep the look well defined and chic while still a little bit sporty. So, next time you want to rock your sneakers outside the gym, try to imagine what theyโd look like as an outfit and embrace the sporty-chic side of you!
