STYLE GURU STYLE: Revenge Of The Trench

As a busy college student living in the Midwest, finding cute, yet warm clothing in the dead of winter is like searching for a needle in a haystack (so impossible). It always seems like if it’s cute, it’s as thin as paper and if it’s warm, it’s as thick as one of grandma’s wool sweaters. So, where’s the balance? What’s a Fashionista to wear in the winter, if she doesn’t want to wear bulky winter clothes, but wants to still be on trend and dare I even say warm?

That’s where trench coats come in. Unlike bulky winter coats, trench coats are trendy and come in so many different styles that you’ll never have to settle between looking like a puffed marshmallow and a stuffed burrito. Along with looking trendy, an added bonus: these types of coats tend to be made out of materials (usually either cotton, cotton-poly blends, or synthetic shell materials) that are thick enough to wear through the fall and winter months. It’s literally like having the best of both worlds.

For this look, I stuck with black leggings and (although you can’t see it) a simple long sleeve top underneath. I paired the coat with a grey knit scarf to pop out the green and stuck with my trusted knee-high black boots. Though I didn’t include a handbag, I would add either a dark solid (like gray or burgundy) or colorful (think blues or greens) handbag to tie the look together.

So whether you’re out and about on campus or going from work to a night out, trench coats are those essential pieces that every Fashionista and Fashionisto needs to have.
