STYLE GURU STYLE: Positive Vibes Only

The faded glamour of the British seasides and a celebration of an irrepressible, boy-nip energy were emphasized at the Topshop Unique spring 2015 ready-to-wear fashion show. The show featured simple silhouettes and color ways with a boyish charm. The items worn in the show, while having a clean aesthetic, demanded attention. This show inspired me because it showed how clothing can be empowering, but also gave a girly take on the masculine trend.

To translate this runway trend into my own closet I thought the most important component was a great pair of pants. These 3.1 Phillip Lim ones were absolutely perfect! The loose trouser silhouette and black stripe mimicked that of a man’s dress pant while the pink color was a clear sign of femininity. I also managed to find this pair for just 13 dollars at Saks Fifth Avenue Off Fifth so I took that as a sign that they were the ones! As far as a top there are a few options you could choose.

You could go with a classic button up, a ruffled off-the-shoulder top, a baby doll tank top or a boxy T-shirt. I went with a boxy T-shirt because I thought it continued the relaxed style of the pants and I really loved the “positive vibes only” saying. I think the Topshop Unique fashion show was an embodiment of positive vibes. It was about having confidence and taking charge and women prospering in more masculine roles. As far as shoes I went with a Birkenstock inspired style. To me, Birkenstocks have a masculine feel to them while still being a great women’s sandal!

Get My Look: 1. A great pair of flowy trousers or structured slacks. 2. A fun boxed T-shirt. 3. Birkenstock-inspired shoe.
