STYLE GURU STYLE: Off Duty

Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week is a time for setting next season’s trends while simultaneously reviving the old, which is exactly what Alexander Wang did with his spring 2016 collection.

Characterized by his signature palette of black, white and sporadic pops of beautiful and current “It” colors, the collection didn’t disappoint as it encompassed all that the designer has built his brand to be for the past 10 years: effortlessly cool.

In an interview during his show, Wang said that to him, modern is “what’s relevant to the everyday.” This statement couldn’t ring more true. Each of the streetwear-inspired looks from the collection are truly wearable and applicable to any Fashionista’s own wardrobe.

I drew inspiration from a staple in the collection, oversized army jackets, which combine my love for oversized clothing as well as a beautiful shade of olive. To give the look my own “Off Duty” feel, I paired my most massive oversized trench with a simple black on black ensemble. The key to my look is casual comfort: a black fitted top with my favorite lululemon athletica leggings and finally, the unbeatable comfort of Nike Roshes (all black, of course).

While being too matchy when it comes to styling an outfit has always been a huge “don’t” for me, I chose to complete the look with an olive green backpack with leather accents—another staple of Wang’s, which he even used to accent an oversized army jacket. With so much black to go up against, the matching hues of the trench and backpack gave my go-to shade a run for its money. Some rules are meant to be broken.

Get My Look: 1. An oversized army green trench. 2. Textured backpack. 3. Monochromatic sneakers.
