STYLE GURU STYLE: Ocean-Inspired

Looking through the Chloé spring 2016 ready-to-wear collection was like watching dreams unfold -dreams of the sea, of sandy beaches scattered with seashells, of a sunset over the sparkly blue water. I became instantly obsessed. A few looks stood out to me in particular. First, a paisley printed sleeveless jumpsuit layered with long strings of beads. Next up was a sheer, nude-colored minidress that could have formed right from the white sand beaches of Tahiti. Finally, there was a long, flowing maxi dress, the colors of its wispy fabric representing all the greens, blues, yellows, and reds of a seaside sunset.

All these saturated summery hues and fabrics floating like waves immediately captivated my attention. I am a pisces, a water-lover. For me, no day is better spent than a hot sunny day surrounded by water and sand. These beautiful pieces left me feeling inspired, and I knew right away that I wanted to create my own look based off the collection.

For my own take on these soft, feminine, sea-inspired looks from Chloé, I started with a statement dress. I chose this bold, flowy number to be the main focus of my outfit. The bright colors and the way the fabric flutters in the wind made it perfect for this look. I gave the outfit a boho vibe, adding a headband and layering on some necklaces that reminded me of the ocean, with strands of gold coins, stones and pearls. For my look I paired the outfit with knee-high suede boots, but for a day by the sea I would swap them out for some strappy gladiator sandals.

Hair and makeup are kept natural and simple, with a some saltwater spray for hair drying in the breeze, white-hot nails and just a little shimmery eye shadow in a pale pink or gold. This look would be perfect for a girl’s night out or a fancy dinner date.
