STYLE GURU STYLE: Island Style

My style normally never strays from minimalism. Black, white, beige and other neutrals are my favorite colors, and I usually never go for neon or bright patterns. Today was much different as I decided to venture out of my comfortable simple shift dresses and all black ensembles to much bigger and bolder things.

Elie Saab—my all time favorite designer—released his new resort 2016 collection. His line featured flouncy, lace-coated dresses, vibrant coastal hues, tropical patterns dedicated to palm trees and cool girl jumpsuits etched with a beach bum vibe. His entire concept embodied the idea of channeling your inner island girl while keeping your classic, bombshell style. Saab’s resort 2016 philosophy seems to prove that looking like you’ve been jet setting between tropical islands all day doesn’t have to compromise looking classy.

Motivated by his way of thinking, I created my own vacation-ready ensemble, drawing inspiration from his tropical prints and sophisticated rompers. My pineapple jumpsuit is a shade similar to the ballerina pinks in Saab’s collection and the pineapples are tribute to his beachy aesthetic. To stick to my usual minimalist style and throw in a bit more class, I added a gold collar necklace, gold pyramid stud earrings and a white and gold watch. To finish it all off, I picked my favorite nude wedges from Nordstrom Rack—a choice I didn’t have to think twice about.

Summertime is the perfect season to try out different trends; there are so many different trendy opportunities. Styles from when we were small, such as jumpsuits or rompers, can easily be redone to give off a more sophisticated feeling. Rather than automatically grabbing a T-shirt and an old pair of shorts, try to find inspiration in the thousands of stunning new summer lines!
