STYLE GURU STYLE: High Neck, High Hopes

Living in Minnesota, us Fashionistas/os always have to be at the top of our game when thinking of ways to look chic while staying warm. When overcoming this challenge of finding runway looks appropriate for the snow and cold, my go-to trend is turtlenecks. I add my own personal flare to one by pairing it with bohemian patterned accent pieces.

My inspiration for this look is from the Alexander Wang fall 2015 ready-to-wear collection emphasizing the turtleneck and rock ‘n’ roll feel to it, in addition to the Burberry Prorsum fall 2015 ready-to-wear show, which really inspired me to start playing with patterns, especially patterns that give off that bohemian essence.

I found my turtleneck at a local thrift store but you can snatch one up at nearly any store these days! The cool part about this style of top is that it gives you endless ways to layer and style it. Here I was going for a cool and casual look, which led me to throw on a faded, vintage denim jacket paired with some knit ankle socks and heeled booties. When I first found this Urban Outfitters skirt, I was immediately reminded of Burberry and knew it would look RAD with a turtleneck. When it comes to playing with patterns, I try to avoid having too much “chaos” in a look. To prevent this, I paired the skirt with solid colored pieces and minimal jewelry: a simple watch, minimalistic earrings and a chunky vintage ring. To tie it all together, I added my absolute favorite vintage Coach satchel as my bag of choice. This look is a perfect weekend look that can easily be dressed up or dressed down to fit whatever your plans are!
