STYLE GURU STYLE: Fringe Forward

April 4th, 2016 at 2:10am

Fringe for spring? (Actually) groundbreaking. It’s not too often that a trend carries over from one season to the next. Usually fashioned in suede or leather, fringe is commonly associated with fall layers. But spring 2016 is breaking the rules. With the fringe frenzy still in full swing, I couldn’t resist adding the fun trend into my spring wardrobe.

My outfit inspiration stems from Rebecca Minkoff’s spring 2016 ready-to-wear collection, one of the many that included fringe on the New York Fashion Week runway. Although I am usually drawn towards color for the spring months, the softness of the fringe balances the tone of my black top. Fringe adds a dimension to this look by creating flirty, effortless movement. Don’t want to commit to the full fringe? Incorporate this trend into your wardrobe through jewelry, a layered jacket or a fringe purse; a common accessory in Minkoff’s spring collection.

Yet, with fringe as the focal point of my look, I wanted to maintain balance by keeping the rest of my outfit simple. A classic pair of wedges (surprisingly more comfortable than you’d think), add a heightened sense of chicness and spring style. I chose a geometric pair to keep interest from head to toe. One of my favorite pieces in this look is my scaled down version of the popular reversible tote. Although I do love the versatility a reversible bag offers, the smaller size is more practical for my life. Fashion and functionality can always go hand in hand!
