STYLE GURU STYLE: Find Your Own Classics

Even if you don’t know me very well, you probably know that I find enjoyment in dressing for the occasion. Whether I am going to a musical in the city or a coffee date, I always set aside a few minutes to decide what are the best garments for that particular outing. Collecting the perfect cross-body bag for travelling, the perfect flannel for a bonfire and the perfect wool socks for hiking is a fun way to build a wardrobe. If you have go-to items for common activities in your life, it will be much easier to get ready for the day. As a result, there is more time left to pick out fun accessories to spice up your look!

This vintage plaid skirt I am featuring is one of those items. It was passed along to me by the family of a friend because she thought a Fashionista would be able to appreciate it. She was right! This pleated garment, with a classic color palette and thick wool fabric, is all one could want for a family dinner or a museum trip during the holiday season. It has versatility due to the balance of structure and comfort. The ability to be worn on multiple occasions is a good quality to look for when shopping for new clothing.

For this look, I decided to pair the skirt with another classic. I recently purchased a cream sweater, also vintage, which tucked nicely into the skirt. The velvet earmuffs, pastel nail color and dark mauve lipstick add modern elements to the styled look. The mix of both classic and modern allows me to show my personal style. A great way to bring in a new classic or vintage garment into your wardrobe is to pair it with your favorite simple items that you already have and love. Don’t be afraid to try a new combination!
