STYLE GURU STYLE: Feeling Shifty

Happy Monday, Fashionistas and Fashionistos! I hope you had an exciting weekend and are ready for a week full of grinding and beautiful outfits. This week I decided to bring you an article, featuring me, about one of my favorite things.

That thing is the shift dress. I would definitely crown myself queen of shift dresses and T-shirt dresses—they are my thing. Why I love these loose fitting and free flowing frocks so much is because of their freedom. Wearing a shift dress or T-shirt dress allows for freedom and movement while maintaining a slight sense of femininity that a dress usually entails.

While these have been all over runways for the past few seasons, I most recently spotted some in Giambattista Valli’s resort 2016 line. While obviously, his designs are much more intricate and beautiful than my plain jane Brandy Melville dress, it is proof that the trend is here to stay for at least a little while longer.

What I love about shift dresses is the ease that comes with styling them. The options can seem endless. I personally love throwing on a jacket, cardigan or in this case, a blazer. Blazers are a nice way to add structure to a look, which can be nice if you’re wearing a loose fitting dress like a shift dress.

The structure that the blazer brings into the entire look is played down a bit though with the fun rosy pink color of the blazer, which I love. I think that this color is super flattering and also close enough to being a neutral that it is one of those pieces that goes with everything.

For accessories, I knew I wanted to go simple (but effective). I wanted to do something a bit different though so I went with a bootie instead of a wedge or sandal. Even though it is summer, I like to wear my less summery pieces and make them wearable. I love these heeled Chelsea booties because they are trendy and add an extra bit of oomph to an outfit.

Lastly, I added a turquoise statement necklace that complements the rest of the colors nicely and adds a nice touch of summer. As far as my bag goes, I knew that going with my classic Cambridge satchel was a must for an understated, yet structured look.

This outfit is one of my favorites because it takes some of my favorite pieces like this shift dress and this rosy pink blazer, and incorporates it with less-summery pieces, like these Chelsea booties, making them wearable and functional for the summer.

Get My Look: 1. Chic shift dress. 2. Fun blazer. 3. Cool booties. 4. Colorful statement necklace.
