STYLE GURU STYLE: Feeling Ripped

September 16th, 2016 at 2:06am

If there is one thing I have learned about getting back into the school routine is that in order to make it through my day, I have to be comfortable and feel great in the clothes I’m wearing. Whether that ends up being a dress with trainers, jeans and a slouchy tank or leggings with an oversized tunic, it is important to be able to run from class to class but still look fashionable. With my favorite season approaching, I had to break out my Doc Martens out of excitement of being able to wear my favorite shoes everyday. For all those fellow combat boot lovers, you already know that they add the perfect amount of edge to any outfit. Plus, they provide all day comfort and are a great staple piece to add to any growing shoe closet. If I am not convincing you yet, have a look at the fall 2016 RTW runway shows from Louis Vuitton and Valentino. They’re fierce.

An outfit is more than just shoes, it takes a top and a bottom to complete a look. This past year, destroyed denim has become an absolute must-have among college students. Whether those holes were bought or self-created, they add character! In order to make my denim stand out, I usually pick a raw hem or a messy rolled cuff to help. It is those small details that make the biggest difference. With my jeans being rolled and above the ankle, I was able to wear some decorative polka dot socks. I am a sucker for any patterned, sparkled or colorful foot coverings. They add that playful touch that helps keep us (me) young. Especially with baggier pants, it is important to balance out feminine and masculine influences and delicate socks can aid this problem.

This whole outfit is created with basics. With a tomboy flare and comfort level that 10/10 would recommend, there is no doing wrong. Everyone needs these go to pieces that can be thrown together in a hurry. In order to give my outfit a sleeker look, I made sure to wear a shirt with buttons, added a plain black choker, a sleek crossbody and sunglasses that have defined angles.

Making outfits work for multiple occasions has become a specialty. If you are looking to make this outfit work with your busy schedule and social life, think about grabbing some ankle strap heels and a tube of matte liquid lipstick and you have transformed the look effortlessly.

Once the season starts to get colder, keep this simple outfit in mind. Layers are your best friends. Try adding on a tailored leather jacket, a large sweater or an oversized boyfriend blazer.

Moral of the story? You can never go wrong with ripped jeans, combat boots and a white basic tee.
