STYLE GURU STYLE: Fashion Blaze

Before my first year of college, my wardrobe lacked professional attire. As a business student, I had to upgrade my closet by trading in my jeans and T-shirts for pencil skirts and blazers. Although I was reluctant to make this change, I quickly fell in love with the power of the business uniform, and blazers now hold a special place in my heart.

Bottega Veneta’s 2016 resort collection increased my love for blazers and has inspired me to incorporate them in more of my outfits. The collection includes blazers in bold colors, paired with comfortable, casual pants and often a high neckline shirt. Look 13 captivated me the most, so I aimed to achieve a similar look in my personal style. To do this, I combined a mock turtleneck shirt with a long blazer and made it my own with pastels and a floral skirt. My black blazer has been easy to wear with a variety of outfits, but after being inspired by this collection, I plan on investing in some colorful blazers to enhance my style.

Veneta’s collection demonstrates the flexibility and practicality of a blazer. It can complete any look: casual or professional. I don’t have to keep my new business wardrobe completely separate from my old favorites. Adding a blazer to an outfit with less structure creates a polished look that is still casual. Blazers can complete a suit or be worn with shorts, flowing skirts or casual sundresses this summer. Take blazers from the office, to the runway, to the street.

Get My Look: 1. Lightweight, patterned skirt. 2. Mock turtleneck top. 3. Black blazer.
